A Promising Way To Treat Your Vertigo Naturally

In Barriers to Healthy, Healing You by carolynh3 Comments

Vertigo is such an unpleasant feeling! That sensation of spinning on a merry-go-round and losing your balance can be debilitating.

I don’t know why, but recently I’ve been hearing from many people complaining about vertigo.

I’ve never had to deal with the symptoms of Vertigo myself. But when I came across this simple solution, I thought I would share it so others could get relief. This simple exercise looks promising for relieving this condition.

Since it’s a non-drug solution, it’s worthwhile to try at the first sign of vertigo.

(If your vertigo doesn’t subside after this exercise, talk to your doctor. There may be other options to help relieve your symptoms.)

The Half Somersault Maneuver

Dr. Carol Foster at the University of Colorado School of Medicine knows the effects of vertigo. She was suffering from the most common form called positional vertigo. It’s where the particles in your ear get dislodged and cause a sudden sensation of spinning. So she came up with a solution anyone can try. Dr. Foster refers to it as “The Half Somersault Maneuver.”

To try this exercise, follow the step-by-step instructions below:

Before you begin, decide which ear you are going to treat. Choose the side you experience the most dizziness from when you lay down and roll over.

1. Start on your knees and tip your head straight up to look at the ceiling.

2. Hold that position for a few seconds. You may feel spinning.

3. Position yourself like are going to do a somersault. Lean forward and place your head upside down. Tuck your chin under so your head is vertical.

4. To treat your right ear, turn your head towards your right elbow. To treat your left ear, turn your head towards your left elbow.

5. While your head is turned, the particles will move, so you will feel spinning. Wait for the spinning to stop, or count to 30.

6. Keep your head turned at a 45 degree angle and quickly raise your head so your head and back are aligned.

7. Wait for the spinning to stop or count to 30.

8. Keep your head turned at 45 degree angle and bring yourself upright to a kneeling position.

If your dizziness does not go away, repeat this technique for 4 or 5 repetitions. Take 15-minute breaks between each try. If symptoms continue, see your doctor for other treatment options.

Thanks Dr. Foster!

Kudos to Dr. Foster for developing a safe, natural solution to a common health problem. This is a great DIY technique worth trying at the first sign of vertigo. If it does not go away, ask your doctor for other treatment options.

Good luck and leave a comment if you try it. I would love to hear if it works for you!
