A Morning Ritual That Will Change Your Life

Sometimes the simplest things make the biggest impact on our lives.  For me, that is what happened when I began taking part in a morning ritual.  Before I begin getting into the specifics of the ritual, I would like you to do something for me.

Take a moment and imagine in your wildest dreams what you would wish for.  Dream big, but make it believable. 

What type of job would you like? 

Where would you like to live? 

 What type of house would you want to live in?  

What friends would you want to hang out with?  

Think of as many aspects of your life and how you would like them to be.

Now imagine if there was a road, kind of like Dorothy’s yellow brick road, that you could step on and follow to get you to your dreams.

How great would that be?

Well, that is the way it could be with my morning ritual.  It’s like a roadmap that could change your life and will take you to your dreams. 

How do I know?  Because it did mine.  Here’s what I do in my morning ritual. Everyone’s ritual can be a little different and you should feel free to customize yours. However, if you don’t know where to begin, I hope this can be a great help. 

How I Take On My Day

Before I begin my morning ritual, I want to be as comfortable and cozy as I can. So I make my cup of coffee, plop myself in front of a large window where I can see the beauty of nature before me and settle in for “a little me time”. Being comfortable and cozy makes my routine more enjoyable, yet I do not recommend doing your routine in your bed. Your mind correlates your bed with sleep, so have a different spot in your house that your mind will correlate with this routine. 

  1. Say a prayer of thanksgiving: Day by day we often get caught up in what is going wrong. Take this time to state what you are thankful for in your life and what is going right. Being thankful attracts more things to be thankful for.
  2. Take 10-15 minutes to stare at a blank wall.  Think of nothing. The key is to clear your mind and bring your attention into the present.  If you are new to mindfulness, focus on your breathing to quiet your mind. 
  3. Write 5 things you are grateful for. After saying a prayer of thanksgiving, it is important to use another sense. By writing down what you are grateful for, you are setting them in stone and proclaiming them to the Universe.
  4. Write at least 6 things you intend to do.  Write 3 short term and 3 long term intentions.  But write more if you think of them. Dreaming is only half of it. Setting your intentions by declaring them and writing them down is the key to getting there. 
  5. Ask a question to yourself and then quiet yourself to hear the answer. This part can feel a little philosophical at first but trust me you will get more comfortable doing it if you keep going with it. One morning I may ask myself, “Why have I been feeling so tired and groggy lately?” and another morning I may ask “Who could really help me do [enter a task you want to do]?” Quiet your mind and see if the answers come to you. Our minds hold a lot more of the answers than we often think. Instead of always asking other people for advice, take this time to allow your body and mind to do the talking. This helps you get in touch with your own intuition.
  6. Go off and have a great day! If you incorporate this ritual in the beginning of your day, you’ll quickly feel a difference in your overall well-being each day.  Your internal vibration rises which feels like you just swallowed a happy pill.  So be the narrator of your life! Remember to think positively and remain present throughout the day. 

If you are looking for more motivation, peace of mind, or alertness during your day, a morning routine would be very beneficial. As the days pass, and your mood each day begins to become more positive, your body and mind will be in the right state of mind for healing and improving yourself. A little “me time” is essential in any healing process. Always remember: the greatest healing happens little by little, day by day. 

My advice to you, wake up 20 minutes earlier and personalize a morning routine that works for you. If you are not a morning person, keep doing it and it will only get easier!
