Are you having one of those days? A day where you feel like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Where everything seems to fall apart, and it’s just one thing after another.

Wouldn’t you like to experience more good days than bad? A day where you feel upbeat and energized and everything just falls into place. You feel like you can take on the world.

Did you know you have control over what type of day you will have? There is a science to having a great day. It just takes a bit of effort, but you can start having more great days than bad ones.

To begin, start incorporating these practices into your daily routine. These habits will help you have one great day after another. Don’t leave it to chance. Stop having a bad day. Make it a fantastic one instead!

Here Are 9 Ways to Turn Your Bad Day Into a Great One!

1. Smile
Even if you don’t feel like it, your body will enjoy that smile on your face. Your body can’t differentiate between a genuine smile and a forced one.

When you laugh, your brain releases endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals in the brain capable of many amazing things. These compounds fight off stress and are appetite modulators. They release sex hormones and enhance your immune response. Endorphins can bring on feelings of euphoria that put you in a better mood.

Every time you smile, you fool your body into thinking it’s happy. If you don’t have a reason to smile, think of the last comedy you saw. What was that scene that made you laugh out loud?

Keep smiling! It’s contagious. Your smile will make people around you happy too!

2. Banish Negative Thoughts
Do you doubt yourself or find it hard to think positive?

Try creating a positive mantra. A mantra is just a phrase you repeat to yourself. Choose an optimistic statement that makes you feel good, such as “I am happy. I am loved. I am beautiful.”

Have your mantra ready for when those negative thoughts appear. When you are feeling low, use your mantra and keep repeating it. By concentrating on your mantra, there’s no room left for negative thoughts. Focus on bringing the positive thoughts in and banishing the negative ones.

3. Incorporate Positive Daily Affirmations
Another way to keep your thoughts positive is to unlock the power of daily affirmations.

Affirmations help you shift your mental attitude to a more positive one.

Repeating positive statements over and over, implants that thought into your subconscious mind. This will help squeeze out negative thoughts to leave room for more positive ones!

By practicing this on a daily basis, you’ll have less time for negative thoughts.

4. Pay It Forward
Put a smile on someone’s face with a simple act of kindness. Giving helps us connect to one another and connecting is a core need for everyone.

Share a kind word, pay a compliment, or reach out with a helping hand. The more you engage in acts of kindness, the better your mood.

Two studies prove the health benefits of giving. In the first study, people ‘gave’ five times a day. It didn’t matter how big or small the act of giving was. Over the course of 6 weeks, the participants reported an increase in happiness.

In another study, people were given a small sum of money. Half the group had to spend it on others while the other half spent it on themselves. Those that spent money on others were found to be happier.

Giving is good! Science refers to this as the ‘helper’s high.’ It’s that euphoric feeling that’s followed by a sense of calm when you help others. So lend a hand to someone, anyone.

5. Exercise Your Brain
To live a vibrant, active, and fulfilling life, a healthy brain is essential. Make life interesting by using your brain to engage you.

It’s important to exercise both sides of your brain regularly. You can do this by learning new things or trying something different.

Are you the creative type? Try an analytical task like a Sudoku puzzle or a game of chess. Do you love mathematics? Take a painting class or learn an instrument.

6. Give Thanks
Give thanks in all you do. Gratitude is a great way to boost your mood.

Begin when you wake up each morning. Come up with five things you are thankful for in your life.

Can’t think of anything? Begin with simple things like, “Thank you for the people in my life,” or “Thank you for the roof over my head.”

Write them down in a daily gratitude journal. You’ll get a boost when you go back to read all the things you are grateful for in your life. By focusing on being grateful, you feel happier.

7. Break Up With Your TV
Turn off the darn TV! It’s hard to stay upbeat and happy with so much negativity on TV.

Reality TV is a good example. It’s anything but real. Our behaviors become influenced in a negative way by watching it. And there’s always something dreadful happening somewhere in the world. With 24-hour news cycles, the broadcasts seem to focus on bad news.

When you surround yourself with bad news and violence, you feel insecure and out of control. Don’t let TV drag you down the rabbit hole of negativity.

8. Turn It Up
Music can influence your state of being.

That’s why people listen to an upbeat melody when they exercise or play a lullaby to get their baby to fall asleep. Music influences your mental state. Do you remember a time when you heard a song that brought back a happy memory from your childhood? I bet it brought a smile to your face.

Music is a vibration. If you listen to music at a lower vibration, it lessens your energy and vigor. Increase your energy by listening to something that vibrates at a higher frequency.

We respond to music by resonating with it. So whatever you want to hear, make sure it feeds your soul.

9. It’s Time To Forgive
The act of forgiveness is so good for your health, happiness, and wellbeing! But when someone hurts you, it’s often difficult to forgive them.

By choosing not to forgive, you harbor all kinds of destructive emotions. You become obsessed with negative thoughts and carry them around with you each day. Even after you lay your head down on your pillow at night, your mind continues to race.

Free yourself from the grip of negative emotions by practicing the art of forgiveness.
