In Barriers to Healthy, DIY Healing, Healing You by carolynhLeave a Comment

Home is where the heart is. But what happens if your home is in poor health? It’s not often we think of our homes as being unhealthy. Of course, it’s not like it will start sneezing or anything, but homes can get sick. And if your home is sick, it can become a barrier to your healing. There are many ways to heal the energy in your home.

Having a healthy home is important to achieve optimal health. Energy in a healthy home promotes healing and rejuvenation.

Do you feel safe, secure and at peace in your home? When you come home after a long day at work, do you feel good when you walk through the door? Do you experience that feeling of “Ahhh, I’m home, now I can relax!” You should. Your home is your sanctuary. If this is not the case, then maybe you should take a look at your surroundings and begin healing your home.

Heal the Energy in Your Home

As an energy healer, I am always looking from a perspective of how things feel. How does the energy feel? Have you ever felt like the air was thick when you entered a room? What about experiencing an uneasy feeling when walking into a friends house? Have you ever physically shivered? Does the room have an unpleasant smell? These are telltale signs a home is sick or on its way to becoming ill.

Homes become sick for many reasons. They often become neglected and wind up becoming cluttered and dirty. Or maybe the air inside becomes toxic as a result of reduced air flow and caustic cleaning chemicals. There may even be mold and mildew settling in dark places.

If you want to experience optimal health or need to heal, don’t neglect your home. A healthy home will help support a healthy you. Follow these seven simple ways to heal the energy in your home.

7 Steps To A Healthier, Healing Home

Open windows letting in fresh air for a healthier home.

1. Throw Open The Windows

Crack those windows open every day. Let the fresh air enter your home. Even for a few precious minutes when it’s chilly outside. Do it as part of your morning routine by opening windows in multiple rooms while you make your bed or tidy up the kitchen.

Doesn’t fresh air feel so invigorating? Letting it into your home prevents the air within from becoming stagnant and stale. Don’t lock it in. You’ll love the exhilarating feeling even in the dead of winter.

2. Clean Up Your Cleaners

Using toxic chemicals for cleaning makes your unhealthy home even more toxic. Toxic homes are not healthy. Before I began using natural cleaners, I would use Tilex in my bathroom to clean the shower. It was so caustic; my eyes would burn every time I stepped into the room hours after I cleaned it. I knew it was not healthy, and I hated it.

That is why I took the time to learn how to make natural cleaners. Natural cleaners like hydrogen peroxide and vinegar are easy to use and cheaper than most commercial chemical cleaners.

There are also essential oils like tea tree, lavender, eucalyptus and lemon oils you can use that will clean and purify your home with a fresh, wholesome scent.

The internet is full of all sorts of DIY natural cleaning recipes. Find the ones that work best for you. I know my house feels cleaner and healthier since I switched. Yours will too!

3. Bring The Outside In

Adding plants to your home decor looks beautiful and will brighten any room, but did you know it can also benefit your health? Plants improve air quality by adding additional oxygen to the room. Because of toxins and other pollutants, the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere is decreasing each year. When measured, it was found that the air was 30% below normal in and around major cities. Plants will put some of that depleted oxygen back into the air you breathe.

Plants also have the ability to absorb pollutants in your home making it cleaner and purer. Some plants are better at improving the quality of air such as Palms, Ferns, Ivy, Chrysanthemums, and Spider Plants.

4. Play Healing Music

Have you ever thought the music you listened to would have an impact on your living quarters? Music is a vibration, and those waves (or frequencies) reverberate throughout your home. If you listen to music that has positive vibrations, it will broadcast those positive vibrations throughout your home, and that will feel good to your body. And when something feels right to our bodies, it promotes healing.

So what type of music resonates positive energy? Think of classical music with its soft tones and comfortable listening style. This kind of music has positive healing vibrations. Your body relaxes. You feel peaceful. Then on the flip side, think of heavy metal with the pounding drums and screaming guitars. Your body reacts by becoming anxious and tense. It doesn’t feel right to our bodies and discourages the positive energy you need to heal.

Another example of music that can have a positive effect on our health are songs that have pro-social lyrics. Think of John Lennon’s timeless song,’Imagine.’ The lyrics are positive and soothing. In contrast, rap songs that are angry, hateful or contain violent lyrics, vibrate negative frequencies. Again, if it doesn’t feel right to your body, it can inhibit your healing.

5. Hang A Wind Chime

Along the same lines as music, ringing bells have a healing effect on our bodies and our homes. Think of the vibrations and frequencies that emanate from bells ringing. The sound is pleasing to your ears and has a positive effect on the vibrations in your home. There are even some studies that indicate the ringing of bells, like church bells, is an effective treatment for depression and other mental disorders.

Investing in some wind chimes to hang inside, or outside your home, can give you the same healing benefits as ringing a bell. When you hear the gentle ringing of wind chimes, it’s soothing to your ears, your body, and your mind.

6. Let The Sunshine In

I love taking walks especially when the sun is shining! But I am amazed at the number of homes that have all their blinds drawn blocking out the sunshine. As I pass by, I notice the houses look closed up and uninviting. They look so dark and unhealthy.

Yes, window treatments do serve a purpose. We all want our privacy. But when you constantly have the shades drawn, it makes your home feel damp and cold. Think how mold and mildew thrive in the darkness. Let’s not be so negative! Open your blinds and let the sunshine spill into the room. It automatically lightens the room, fills it with warmth. Your house begins to heal, and you feel good. And when you feel good, you heal.

7. Get Rid Of The Clutter

Pick up and de-clutter your home. When living in an environment that is disorganized and cluttered, energy flow is inhibited. Have you ever completed a major cleanup project and felt great about your accomplishment? Besides a job well done, you felt you could finally sit back and put your feet up. There is a reason for that. De-cluttering your surroundings lets the energy flow around you. A study at UCLA found an increase in stress hormone levels in female homeowners who had a high density of household objects. The more ‘stuff’ they had in their homes, the more pressure the women felt.

In Feng Shui, energy needs to flow freely through space. Clutter is a disturbance in your home. It can weaken your focus, scatter your mind, and fuel anxiety. It steals the vital energy from you. Remove the clutter and regain the power to make you feel good. And when you feel good, you heal.
